The
Ernst & Young
survey – which is also celebrating its tenth year - selects
the top 100 companies based on their market capitalisation on the
JSE as at 31 October 2006, being the last trading day in October.
These companies account for approximately 90% of the total market
capitalisation of the JSE. All companies are regarded as being eligible
other than pure holding companies.
Second place was awarded to Barloworld, partly as a result of particularly good disclosure of risks, clear identification of category of risks and management’s response to those risks. Its sustainability report has hard facts and comparative figures and was presented in a user friendly manner. Barloworld provided a detailed review of operations together with clear identification of key risks and other important aspects of the 7 major components of its operations. Disclosure of financial targets highlighted current targets as well as the previous targets set, together with the performance against those targets for the current and prior years.
